The unheard tree that falls in forest far
The probe of sun’s long finger at the dawn
A dancing leaf succumbing in the Fall
An opening bud’s slow-motion waking yawn
A statue’s cold complexion gazing blind
Thin wisp of dust in drought-dry river bed
An Amyclaean oath or doldrums’ draught
A graveside meditation for the dead
The spinal spasm sparked by lover’s touch
A Himalayan banner hanging lax
The twitch of a savannah lion’s ear
The auger of an upheld unstruck axe
A mushroom cloud on monochrome TV
The words that spoke in unremembered dream
Blurred shooting star dividing inky sky
A painting of an open-mouthed scream
Plains Buffalo stampeding in their fear
As heard by poet when the Muse is near
Wonderful writing! This piece flows so nicely and is telling it’s own story.
Very nice.
Lots of love
Thank you for the favourable critique of this piece Patty – I appreciate it greatly.
The fragments of silence
Splintering into a thousand pieces
Caused by its heavy fall
An admirable appraisal and addition, thank you.
“As heard by poet when the Muse is near” It would seem, my good sir, that your Muse was close at hand whilst you penned this. Too many beguiling lines to choose a favorite. Your words are magical….
Thank you kindly Christina and yes my Muse was indeed close that day and fortunately wasn’t wearing that diaphanous outfit that leads my mind astray (as you know, they can be a bit of a bee-aach at times).
LOL! Indeed…I would think such an outfit would inspire something other than writing….so best that it wasn’t worn haha!
…. ..! 🙂
Thanks Evelyn

The line “A mushroom cloud on monochrome TV’ from your poem gave me the shivers.
Thanks JJ, I first saw that image as a child and its contradictory silence still wows me.
Beautiful poem, Mike; it felt like a journey upon which you pointed out all of the quiet in the attractions. I especially loved this line:
“A Himalayan banner hanging lax”
Glad you enjoyed the tour Ed and thank you for revealing this new perspective.
Once again, you write the truth. I absolutely loved it. Kudos.
Sincere thanks and lovely to hear from you as always Chrissy.
Always a pleasure to visit! Your words are breathtaking.
wow, amazing. every line was well thought-out..and yes, all of them are silent, but leave a great impact. Perhaps this was the most captivating for me, ‘Thin wisp of dust in drought-dry river bed..’ Glad I read it today. Inspiring
Huge thanks – that line you quoted was my nod to Australia in this piece. Your well considered words are always welcome nl.
Oh Mike… You found such beauty, in the silents… There are no words worthy of breaking them… Just awed silence…
The ‘silents’ – Megan your default approach to the English language is to render any improvements – usually phonetic filigree – to make its words more apt, self-evident, polysemic or witty. That you would do so to honour this little poem is as fine a compliment that the poet could wish for. I thank you with great noise and clamor.
If the length of the poem is in which you refer to, then I must confess, even a haiku blessed by your pen, is far from little my friend… I thoroughly enjoy each word. 🙂
We need these silent moments to hear our inner poet and in this case your readers, as I indeed did, became hushed at the discovery of your sublime poem. Truly wonderful!
It’s always a delight (relief) to have your greatly respected impra mater RT . I thank you.
sounds of silence wanders and echoes
whispering what the muse wishes to say out loud..
I really like this Mike….

I love it. Awake asleep and around your world, it sings.
…and your words leave a melody of their own in my ears. You have my earnest appreciation for these kind remarks..
You are most welcome and I am most grateful as well.
Hey Mike, thanks for the lake on silence. I thought it was amazing that I was writing one at the same time you were. Alex
Great minds…
Judging from the title of this poem and then its content, the sound of silence has much worthwhile to say.
Your kind reply is poetic in itself DVH which confirms your thoughtful analysis of this piece. I thank you candidly.
what can i say…i’m speechless 🙂 – incredible!
Ha, yes ‘speechless’ equals ‘silence’ – why didn’t I think of that? You have penned a perfect poetic praise to this poor poet – my abounding thanks Maria.
You are a true poet Mike 🙂
There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed this poem, except maybe “Encore!” 😀

Delighted that it worked for you M – many thanks.
*smile* I’ll second Roxi’s “Outstanding!” (Even if I DON’T know what the deuce “An Amyclaean oath” is! Never mind…I’ll ask my good friend Google. *g*
I thank you kindly Ron and I’m ashamed to admit that I’d be lost without Bing myself (no more Google for this paranoid privacy poet).
Outstanding!
My dear Roxi your brevity makes it easy for me to carry that word around with me all day – thank you so much.
