Seamus Heaney is dead a year today –
The buds of a tree may be lost for a while
But the thrust of the trunk stands proud
The rowan will blush with its kisses again
To nourish the hunger of the songbirds who remain
Silentes sed non oblitus
The song never ends… Mike this post is poignantly inspiring, thank you
A refrain indeed Evelyn. I think you and I have great taste ๐
Aye :p
A beautiful tribute to a beautiful and great poet. ๐
It takes a big man to pay homage to a big man – thanks DVH
A wonderful tribute here and it seemed to fit after his own lines quite well, Mike.
Thank you friend Christy – not that I expected myself to match the master ๐
I had to sit and think on that…a year has passed, and it doesn’t seem that long…
your tribute is beautiful and the lines you added were perfect in the belief that words will come again and continue to go on ( or so I thats what I felt when I read yours)
Thank you for sharing and reminding us a beautiful soul has been gone longer than I realized..
Take Care…You Matter…

Your stanza is a wonderful continuation of Heaney’s – very moving and fitting. (And of course I loved the rowan!).
Kind words thank you RT – I selected the particular poem with you in mind.
I did wonder whether you thought of me with the rowan, but I assumed I was having an egotistical moment – I’m touched๐
Reblogged this on Jane Dougherty Writes and commented:
A year has gone by since the world lost a great poet. Thank you for this tribute, Mike.
…and thank you for this acknowledgement and dissemination Jane.
I’d like to reblog this. For several reasons, but mainly because both parts of ths post are lovely. A worthy tribute.
Thank you on both counts Jane, I am genuinely appreciative.
I can’t believe how that year has flown. Thanks for posting a warm tribute to a poetic mentor.
And thank you Kk for acknowledging this – tempis fugit.
Thanks for reminding me of the anniversary. Just posted his Digging. Have a great week end,Mike
Right back atcha Benny and you selected well – many would argue that Digging was his apogee.
