When asked his most feared thing
Papa Hemingway replied – a blank sheet of paper
Today that same pale page is mine
Sappho wrote – What cannot be said, is wept
Yet nothing flows fluidly from my mind’s eye
My soul’s ambrosial reservoir unfilled
The Bard declared – The purpose of words is to give them away
So I am the beggar starving with a hunger to host
a wordthy banquet where all may gorge
But because Bukowski barked –
Writing about writer’s block is better than not writing at all
I offer nothing but these thoughts this day
Wonderful words….as always x
I’m so pleased that this appealed to you Stephy, thank you for your kind words 🙂
Very well done.
Glad this little piece did it for you Leona. Thanks for your appreciation.
I’m thinkin’ Bukowski would wanna sit down and tip a few with you – more would flow then, than words – there’s more than one way to unblock, yeah? Cheers!
A brilliant observation S.A.! Volumes, nay, encyclopaedic editions would result. Sláinte!
I don’t like it, I love it.
Where’s the “Love” button, Goddammit!
The “block” presages a fillable cup:
The reservoir is filling up.
Thanks Slayer, thankfully the reservoir did indeed replenish and appreciation such as yours made up much of the supply. Your words are greatly appreciated.
Jus’ spreading the love, Mike. Jus’ spreading the love.
Stay talented.
And classy.
writer’s block is a myth, Mike! At least, I keep telling myself that, time is more of an enemy to me than a lack of inspiration (and that is also my own fault and artful use of procrastination). May I suggest that you always finish your writing day NEAR the end of a page/screen or at the start of one, this erases the illusion of a daunting blank page.
That tip reads perfectly logical to me Baldy – I’ll file it away. And yeah the term is a myth but it’s a great excuse and better than having to list all my personal shortcomings and all the mundane crap got dumped on my day 😀
Feeling you, K.
Time, too, is my nemesis. There is a severe, and limb-severing, battle between domesticity and work on the one hand and “creativity” on the other.
What’s the answer?
More disciplined time-management?
I’m with Baldy on this Slayer – it’s a myth. Conversely, when we’re in the groove we become anti-social and neglect our duties so there is no balance, just a need. Sorry 😀
I’m intrigued. I would like you to expand. Perhaps this could be your next post: “Time” -v- Responsibility.
😀 A job for accountants, not poets 😀
You’re quoite roight.
I shall pen a suitable
Noit to Deloitte tonoight.
blank sheets, blank screen…it’s usually an incubation period for thoughts (though we are not aware). the lines here suggests no block at all
That’s a very positive thought! I’ll remember it for my next drought. Many thanks for this helpful contribution.
Heyy this is really awesome. Great use of words
The Bard declared – The purpose of words is to give them away
So I am the beggar starving with a hunger to host
a poetic banquet where all may gorge
This stanza I loved the most .Awesome
🙂
I’m pleased that this verse did it for you C, I thought that particular line of Shakespeare was beautifully generous.
your offerings are greatly welcomed 🙂
This was amazingly creative! Writer’s block doing some good haha
Ha, yes – reeks of irony doesn’t it *facepalm*
Thanks for your positive words Viking woman.
I have to follow!!
Welcome aboard C-mom and thank you so much 😀
Very good.
A nice way of dealing with writer’s block.
And as the words fall to the floor or on to the page, you can say “a chip off the old block”.
I thank you for such complimentary feedback DVH – I cannot add to that as I’m distracted by my palm slapping my face repeatedly in reaction to your closing comment.
What a fun piece 🙂 love it!
Well there had to be an upside, right? 😀 Thanks IZ
One of my favorite things to do when I can’t write, is to write about not being able to write. Or if there is no word that works, perhaps say there is no word that works. It ends up being refreshing and surprising and does the trick of putting something on paper. Nice Work.
Exactly what I just found out April but you describe it better. Thank you for this reinforcement and feedback.
The nightmare of every writer!
Hugz ❤

Love this post!
Thank you Bejamin.
You’re welcome.
Great post, dear Mike… It seems ironic that even the wonderful, Nobel and prolific writer, Ernest Hemingway feared the blank page.
Thanks for sharing!, All the very best to you, Aquileana 😀
It appears to be an occupational hazard Aquileana but all the smiley faces I’m receiving is certainly helping – many thanks 😀
Oh some days are so like that – it’s overwhelming to be underwhelmed — 🙂
Ha! Perfectly put Christy 😀
Erm, I might be missing the point, but it seems to me you’ve cracked it 🙂
You sweet-talker you. No, wait…yeah…I see what you mean. Oh drat!..it’s back to the drawing board for me then.
Just go for a walk Mike. Poor old Emily Dickinson only had her window to look out of for inspiration. Then again…
I totally appreciate this Mike. My work is so busy at the moment that it’s dulling my brain. I do have an opera weekend coming up (Don Giovanni), so I’m hoping that wakes some neurons up!
Exposure to any of the arts will cause creative sparks to fire RT, in fact I guarantee it – go gurl 🙂
Very true, write about anything, don’t let the block win!
The advice seems to made sense Lizzie but I’m till holding my breath…
your moment of pause between your writing your thoughts are very well put and taken it as well…your writer’s bloke has a whisper full of wisdom
Take Care…You Matter…

Mike, I can’t imagine you to be at a loss for words and here is affirmation. Wonderful poetry.
Sometimes I think these dry periods are good for keeping poets humble H (although it also serves to propagate the image the starving poet!) Your understanding and kind comment soothes.
Good morning Mike, it’s not a good feeling, waiting for that inspiration…Have a wonderful day! 🙂
Never fear, Michael. You continue to find a way to allow us to fall further towards your grasp, even with these honest admissions…
Thank you for showing us your heart.
Aww Audrey Dawn – you sweetheart; I’m feeling better already 🙂
Love this! Peace to you . . .
