Something in the way she smiles
Sends vibes that feel so transcendental
Blonde with bright gapped smile and blue eyes
The musos fought for her heart
Composing her songs with art.
Something when a guitar weeps
Intense with riff or pulsed stucatto
Warfare waged with warm words winsome
They begged her to take their hand
She slipped them like grains of sand.
Something still about her now
Alone and listening to her anthems
Something in her smile still shows me
When she’s near composers write
She’s still Wonderful Tonight.
Something in her knowing eyes
Sent out a wave of inspiration
This plebeian poem limps lowly
Remembering Layla’s air
My poetry cannot compare.

In case I haven’t told you, I adore the way you put words together. It’s not jumping obvious, and not all the time, but there’s a uniqueness that just works, and your writings read so classy because of it. 🙂
And what a muse! I’ve had them too. Somebody should write a study about that complex kind of infatuation, where you adore them but there is that sense of burning competition because they are just so brilliant and you wish you could match it.

I had to go away…to look her up…and then come back (being a lover of bass, Jack Bruce is more my man)…for a supposedly “plebeian poem” it seems mighty fine to me!

Only the David Gilmour’s of the world can get away with singing poetry Dara (see previous post) and the music associated with this poem is easy on the ear whenever it’s played. Add Clapton’s ‘Bell Bottom Blues’ to your playlist too – I couldn’t manage to work it into this piece with the others.
