The view from my age expands with every year
Though the horizon pretends no variation now;
The years disclose paler patchwork fields
Yet prudent stalks wield rich and finer yields;
The slender trees though frangible and spindly
Weigh less fruit but of rare and savored fare;
Rocks once rough eroded now and smoothed
Regale with narrative their storied strata bared;
The undulating contours and aquiline relief
Wear wrinkles sculpting countenance of character.
Iโm more drawn to the towering back-lit peaks
Than to the gloomy gorges dipped in shade.
Reblogged this on Tales of Unwise Paths.
And when you reach those snowy mountain tops, what then? May I reblog?
Your question prompts me to suppose that I would sit on that snowy peak until frozen into a statue and then spend eternity as master of all I survey. Thank you – I would consider your reblogging a privilige.
Like “The old man of the mountain”? I think you would get bored.
Apologies for the delay. Don’t know how I missed this – I’m getting old!
Once again I send you my appreciation for reblogging – many thanks.
Thank you.
I find few things more attractive than maturity; and you have wonderfully enumerated the reasons here. Smiles.
Your contribution adds value to my poem and my reasons for writing it. I thank you sincerely.
the whetstone of time grooms maturity at its finest…beautiful wrinkles. Nice piece
Your beautifully composed comment outshines the poem for poetic elegance – thank you so much.
It takes no shine off the poem…jusr emphasizing the message
well Mike, i keep coming back for more as you can see ๐ so, i have a question for you…how do you feel about collaborative poetry?
I’ve thought about it before Maria and can’t see how it could possibly work with either my writing style or the meager hours I can allocate to it – in fact I think the concept so unworkable that I have tremendous admiration for those who can actually do it ๐
I have tried it a couple of times…different styles can also fuse, it brings out the beauty of poetry. You can also give it a try.
It certainly works for those who are suited to it Inkstinct ๐
ok Mike, I have an idea that takes up as much time as writing a poem ๐ i actually came up with it while reading your poetry …if you’re interested – fokamaria@hotmail.com
It appears you have a better offer below Maria ๐
I would be interested if you are…
Good on you Inkstinct, you are a talented man ๐
ok Inkstinct, thank you for the interest ๐ you can either email me for the details, or go to my blog and find my fb account link to discuss it on inbox –
Love this poem Mike. A wonderful perspective painted so greatly with words.

Glad you enjoyed it Patty and I wish you many back-lit summits on your own journey. Thank you for your positive words.
You end on a splendid image, Mike. Just keep your eyes on those mountain peaks. I’ll try to follow your example.
With one’s chin up it’s impossible to miss them Jane. Thank you for drawing the focus to the clue the narrator gave the reader for ageing contentedly.

The country girl in me finds this section quite fine, Michael. I think aging with you could be finer than vintage wine. Enjoy your week.
What a scene you conjure here Audrey Dawn and “tis a consummation devoutly to be wished”. My thanks go out to you.
Loved your refined choice of words! Another great poem, Mike:)
Thanks e-T, your words reward the lexicographic exhumations I had to shovel my way through to unearth some of them! Your kind words are greatly appreciated.
To misquote Fleetwood Mac ,”You make aging fun.”
Thanks Jackie – you rock ๐
You’ve created a beautiful painting with words that I can sit and reflect upon all day. Plus, I recognize that view as I, too, am drawn in similar directions as I age. Thank you.
You’re very kind to say so AC and I laud your recognition of the terrain because it is indeed the optimal place to be to maximize the vista. My sincere appreciation for your words.
Very good metaphors on how perspectives change with time ๐
Thank you drawing attention to one of the key poetic devices that I employed here APP – much appreciated ๐
A volcano exuding rich lava of words ๐
Music to my ears I-Zip and my warmest thanks flow back to you.
Marvelous!
Glad you thought so Bejamin and thank you for letting me know.
You’re welcome.
Beautiful! Like fine wine, as they say. =)
You clever commentator – I could have worked a vineyard/vino scenario in there somehow. You get double thanks for this.
This captures so well the feelings one goes through over a longer span of years with each passing year.
You’ve gone straight to the heart of it DVH. Thanks for this analysis.
Felt a sense of calm spread through me reading this. I’d hope my words and feelings age as well as you have.
Hey Sabica, I’m not THAT old! ๐ (but I certainly feel that way sometimes). And I so happy with your reaction to this piece – I promise you that this feeling of serenity does indeed increase as one matures. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
(((Awhoooo)))
My thanks and acknowledgement echoes back to you Marcus.
Mike !, Such a great poem … I love the way you described the aging process as being related with natural landscapes and their surroundings.
The parallelisms work perfectly here!. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you, Aquileana ๐
I’m particularly cheered by your generous evaluation Aqui and delighted with your comment.
I wish I’d written that.
You have no idea how often I’ve used those words myself Ron! A fine compliment – many many thanks.
Lovely words Mike.
Thanks Ms Vee, I’m pleased that this piece clicked with you.
You’re welcome. It surely did. ๐
Really unique way to discuss aging. Beautifully written, Mike.
A welcome interpretation and a lovely compliment – thanks Tiffany.
Really loved this one Mike. The older you get the faster the years go by too, this year in particular…
Glad you enjoyed this and yes, there is a sense of acceleration but my poetic license allows me to ignore those bits…
I always look forward to finding your writings on my feed. Another wonderful one Mike:-)
What a lovely thing to say! You. Have. Made. My. Day. ๐
WONDERful perspective on aging! –Dennis
